Activities

The Covid-19 pandemic presented many challenges for Wommmad. The determination, commitment and generosity of our leadership and donors made it possible for Wommmad to continue supporting families in 2020.

Sponsorships and Scholarships

In 2018, Wommmad was able to pay teachers over a 10-month period to tutor 10 very promising students at St. Richard’s Primary so that they could attain better grades.  This project has given children a chance for a better future through education.  Wommmad continues to support children with the potential for academic excellence through its scholarship programme.

Backpacks and School Supplies

Every year, we provide backpacks filled with school supplies to students in Jamaica. In 2019, sixty Jamaican students entering high school received backpacks.  In spite of the Covid-19 pandemic, Wommmad was able to repeat this project in 2020.  Thanks to your help, fifty students received much needed school supplies. A special event was held to distribute the backpacks and school supplies at the Pegasus Hotel in August, 2020. In addition, ten students received tablets to facilitate online learning during the pandemic. Wommmad thanks the Pegasus Hotel and generous donors who made it possible to support children and their families.

Medical supplies

In 2019, Wommmad provided much needed medical supplies to the Psychiatric Department of the University Hospital of the West Indies, Jamaica.  Personal care products, medication and medical supplies amounting to $2,000 benefited 50 patients/family members.  This project greatly relieves the financial strain on families who need to care for their mentally challenged relatives.
